The RNC is investigating several complaints of fraud in the Springdale Street area of St. John’s regarding a man charging for parking in a vacant lot.

The parking lot is across the street from the Delta Hotel parking lot on the west side of the street adjacent to Pleasant Street.

The owner of the property has not allowed any individual to use it for parking and the RNC is urging the public to be aware that this is not a legitimate paid parking area.

This area is private property and people who park there may be ticketed by the City of St. John’s or the RNC.

The RNC is encouraging anyone who has recently parked at this lot during a Mile One event and paid for parking to contact the RNC.

Anyone with information regarding this fraud is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

It isn't "fraud" if the person providing the parking is the person who owns the property and provides consent.. Plus we NEED more parking spots downtown..

It isn't "fraud" if the person providing the parking is the person who owns the property and provides consent. There's always someone who works for bigger business man. Plus we NEED more parking spots downtown. Just sayin'

This matter is not fraudulent, as the owner has given me verbal consent to operate this lot with him receiving half of the profits.

I think the RNC should be more worried about where they are parking their patrol, unmarked and private cars. I have pictures of at 57 different vehicles parked at the police station directly under 2 no parking zone signs. I also have pictures of them parking their personal cars in the same no parking spots and in handi-capped parking spots yet no ticket has been issued. I would even go so far as to say that they are down there parked illegally as I am typing this.
