Environment Canada has issued a storm surge warning for the south coast.
The warning includes southern Avalon, Burin Peninsula and Connaigre Peninsula to Port aux Basques.
High waves and pounding surf activity for these areas are expected to produce elevated water levels that could impact the coastline and associated infrastructure.
Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador encourages residents to be mindful of these conditions that are forecast over the next 24 to 36 hours and avoid coastal areas if at all possible. Conditions may be extremely hazardous and emergency management officials advise the public to use extreme caution.
