El Monterey brand Taquitos and Tornados, which have been sold nationally, are being recalled from the marketplace because they are believed to pose a health risk.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the recall was initiated by Ruiz Food Products, in California because some of the meat used by the manufacturer had been recalled by Rancho Feeding Corp.  in California on Feb. 8 "because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection."

The advisory goes on to say, "Therefore, these products are considered unsound, unwholesome or otherwise unfit for human consumption."

The recall is for El Monterey beef and cheese taquitos — flour tortillas, 20 per box, with UPC 071007406508 and El Monterey ranchero steak tornados, 24 per box, with UPC 10071007863902.
