Last Nov. 21, Stephen Hopkins, 22, pleaded not guilty to charges laid against him and elected to be tried in Newfoundland Supreme Court by judge alone.
Hopkins is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection with an incident on June 6 around 1:40 a.m. It's alleged Hopkins attacked a 37-year-old man walking on the south side of Frecker Drive.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the victim's injuries were serious, but not life threatening.
Police also said at the time, the suspect and victim were not known to each other.
Two days have been set aside for the pre-trial hearing.
Hopkins has not been in custody, having been granted bail shortly after his arrest.
