Man arrested after police chase makes court appearance

A man facing charges after a police chase Thursday night made his first appearance in provinial court in St. John’s today.


George Chafe, 25, was allegedly in a stolen vehicle when he led RNC officers in a chase in the area of Prince Phillip Parkway in St. John’s.

The pursuit ended in the area of Freshwater Road when Chafe fled on foot. The RNC used a police dog to track Chafe who was found a short time later.

Chafe’s bail hearing was set over to the morning of March 14. He’s facing a list of charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and possession of break and entry tools. He also owes in excess of $30,000 in fines.

Man facing charges after fleeing police in alleged stolen vehicle

A 25-year-old man is facing numerous charges after trying to avoid arrest Thursday night when RNC officers were tracking a stolen vehicle in St. John's.

The incident began about 10:30 p.m. in the area of Prince Phillip Parkway when the RNC began a pursuit of the stolen vehicle.

The pursuit ended in the area of Freshwater Road where the driver got out of the vehicle and ran.

Patrol officers, with the assistance of the police dog services unit, tracked the accused and he was apprehended a short time later.

He is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, possession of break and entry tools, resisting arrest, as well as breaches of court orders.

The man also owes more than $30,000 in outstanding fines.

He was held in custody for an appearance in provincial court this morning.
