RCMP officers in central Newfoundland believe drivers not clearing snow from their vehicles may be a factor in a recent increase in collisions in their jurisdiction.
RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor and Traffic Services Central say they've recently been swamped with minor motor vehicle collision calls and reports.
In a news release, the force says these collisions are partly due to an increase in the amount of snow that has fallen in the past month, as well as other factors.
One thing consistent that has been noted has been the neglectful actions of the drivers, the release says. Many are not making sure snow is removed from their vehicles and, when entering onto the roadway from a driveway or other roadway, they are not taking the time to allow sufficient space between them and the approaching vehicles.
The RCMP in Grand Falls is reminding drivers that no matter how high the snow banks get or how much snow falls, it is still the responsibility of drivers to make sure their vehicles are completely free of snow to allow full visibility around their vehicle and, when entering onto a roadway, they should ensure that it's safe to do so.
