Man charged after RCMP officer assaulted with snowmobile in Natuashish

A 25-year-old man has been charged in Natuashish with a number of charges after a RCMP officer was knocked over and injured by a snowmobile Thursday night in the Labrador community.


The man was arrested today and charges include assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and breach of undertaking.

He is expected in provincial court this afternoon.

RCMP officers in Natuashish were on the hunt for the snowmobiler who jumped on a snowmobile Thursday night and drove in the direction of an officer, knocking him over and causing injuries.

The RCMP says about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, an RCMP officer was on patrol when he responded to a disturbance, and drove up upon a fight in progress between two men.

Upon seeing the police, one of the men ran off.

The RCMP officer pursued this suspect on foot and was attempting to arrest the man when he jumped on a snow machine and drove in the direction of the RCMP officer knocking him over.

The suspect then proceeded to drive away at a high rate of speed.

The RCMP officer was treated and released at the local clinic for non-life threatening injuries and the suspect is still at large.
