A multi-vehicle collision has occurred on Portugal Cove Road near Tilt House Bakery.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says traffic there may be affected and drivers should consider taking an alternate route.

The RNC is also cautioning drivers that due to high winds, some areas on the Northeast Avalon are experiencing whiteout conditions and roads are icy in some spots.

Other police advisories issued

The RCMP issued an advisory earlier today on Twitter that the Trans-Canada Highway on the Avalon has areas with snow- and ice-covered roads, as well as some wet areas. Drivers are urged to exercise caution.

Deer Lake RCMP also advised motorists travelling through the town on the Trans-Canada Highway, that visibility along the lake front is extremely poor to non-existent currently due to white outs.

One single-vehicle collision was reported around  8 a.m. this morning. There were no injuries and the vehicle was quickly removed from the scene.

The RCMP is suggesting motorists use Squires Road to enter and exit Deer Lake on the west end of town to avoid the severe whiteout conditions.

Clarenville RCMP also issued an advisory earlier today about poor road conditions on the TCH between Goobies and Come by Chance.

Roads are snow covered and slippery, with near zero visibility reported. The RCMP asks the public to use extreme caution if using the TCH in this area.
