RNC investigating armed robbery, mall break-in

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating an armed robbery that occurred early this morning at a gas bar in St. John’s west end.


According to police, the robbery was reported around 1:30 a.m. An undisclosed amount of cash and quantity of cigarettes were stolen from the business. There was no injuries.

There have been no arrests at this time.

Break and entry at shopping mall under investigation

Also, early this morning around 12:15 a.m. , RNC officers and police dog services responded to a report of a break and entry at a business in the Avalon Mall in St. John’s.

The RNC said a small amount of property was stolen from the business. There are no arrests at this time and that matter is also under investigation.

At 1:37 a.m., RNC patrol officers, as well as the police dog services, responded to a firearm call in west end.

As a result a 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unsafe storage of a firearm and a number of breaches of court orders. There were no injuries in the incident and the accused was held in custody for a court appearance this morning.

Woman charged with impaired after vehicle goes off the road, hits building

At 12:17 a.m., RNC responded to a single-vehicle collision in the west end of St. John’s in which a vehicle had gone off the road and collided with a building.

the RNC said a 55-year-old female driver left the scene and was arrested a short time later. She has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident under the Highway Traffic Act, as well as impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.

The woman was released to appear in court at a later date . There were no injuries as a result, but the vehicle and building sustained minor damage.
