The victim of an assault on Freshwater Road in St. John’s over the weekend was still in hospital as of late Sunday afternoon, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
That’s more than 36 hours after police were first called to the area at 2 a.m. Saturday to respond to an assault with a weapon incident. A 24-year-old man was seriously injured.
Police held the scene while officers continued to investigate and have since released it.

A man is at a St. John’s hospital in serious condition following an assault on Freshwater Road.
According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, police were called shortly after 2 a.m. to look into a report of an injured man in the street.
A RNC spokeswoman said the 24-year-old victim was in serious condition as of late Saturday morning and that police are still looking for witnesses as part of the investigation. The RNC has secured the area where the man was found.
