There were no injuries in a fire that extensively damaged a home in Lewisporte this morning.
A woman and toddler, along with the family pet, escaped the blaze unharmed. Other family members were not home at the time.

The RCMP say an officer on patrol about 10:30 a.m. noticed heavy smoke coming from a residence on Pond Road in the community.

When the officer arrived at the scene, the occupants of the home and the family pet were evacuating the house.

The Lewisporte Fire department quickly arrived on scene and contained the fire, however, the property sustained extensive damages.

The Canadian Red Cross says the family of five is staying with relatives. The Red Cross made emergency purchases of clothing, food, personal-care and infant-care needs for the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
