The Matthew has received donations from several sources over the past couple of weeks.

The St. John's IceCaps donated $5,000 to the Town of Bonavista's Matthew Legacy Committee. Danny Williams presented to cheque from the IceCaps to Bonavista Mayor Betty Fitzgerald, fundraising chair of the Matthew committee.

The ship hasn't touched water in several years, and while the Matthew site is open to tourists, people are not able to get on board due to safety concerns.

Former premier Danny Williams donated $5,000 to the project, on behalf of the IceCaps hockey team, on Saturday, April 5.

Kevin King of Shoal Investments Ltd. also handed the committee a $5,000 cheque.

Matthew Legacy Committee fundraising chair Betty Fitzgerald says the Alberta based company Biomax also presented her with $1,000 for the ship.

"I've got $11,000 so far and I just started the campaign a little while back, so it's looking good," says Fitzgerald, who is also Mayor of Bonavista.

Fitzgerald says the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, Frank Fagan has also come on board to help the Matthew.
