Don Keats steps in as search continues for Vickie Kaminski’s replacement

As of May 5, Don Keats will be at the helm of Eastern Health as the acting president and CEO of the province’s largest health authority.

Keats has been named to the position following current president and CEO Vickie Kaminski’s announced exit.

She is leaving to take a top position with Alberta Health Services. Her last day at Eastern Health is May 9.

Keats will take over the role of president and CEO in the interim, until Eastern Health’s board of trustees selects a permanent replacement for Kaminski.

Eastern Health has hired Four Corners Group, an executive search firm, to assist in that work — expected to be completed over the next four months.

“Mr. Keats has extensive experience in the health sector having previously served in many leadership capacities in health-care organizations across the country and most recently was the deputy minister of the Department of Health and Community Services here in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Michael O’Keefe, chair of the Eastern health board of trustees, in a statement issued late this morning.

“We welcome him to Eastern Health and look forward to his leadership as we continue to provide health-care services across the region.”

Keats has experience in the role of CEO at three former health-care organizations: Central West Health Corporation, General Hospital Corporation in St. John’s, and Grand Falls and District Health Board, according to information provided by Eastern Health.

“(He) has also served as CEO of Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Ontario, assistant deputy minister of the Department of Health and Community Services in Newfoundland and Labrador, and assistant deputy minister with the Nova Scotia Department of Health. He has experience serving on various boards, including the Newfoundland and Labrador Hospital and Nursing Home Association, the Canadian Health Care Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information.”

His appointment is effective May 5.

Looking back, Keats is part of the ol' boys club that kept moving around, doing not much more than adding titles to their resumes.

Dolf, you seem to be one person who does little more then look for things political that may not be there. Don Keats was head of central health system and was well-liked at his job. Their are always people like you who shows so much hatred for the governing Conservatives that you would try to discredit anyone who gets a higher-end Government job. Get over it bye!!
