Brandon “Brendon” Christopher Tobin, 20, was wearing a white jumpsuit when he appeared in court. He is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, breach of probation and breach of an undertaking.

The young man kept his head down through most of his brief appearance in court Sunday and did the same as he left the courtroom escorted by a sheriff’s officer.

When police were called to Keegan Court in St. John’s shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, neither a victim nor a suspect could be located in relation to the report of a possible assault with a weapon incident.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, one of the two victims in the case was later located in a St. John’s hospital, where he was being treated for serious injuries.

That person was still in hospital as of Sunday morning, according to police. Police would not confirm or deny if the injuries were life threatening.

“I can say the injuries are serious,” wrote an RNC spokesman in an email to The Telegram.

The suspect was arrested without incident early Sunday morning. Crown lawyer Jeff Summers opposed Tobin’s release and recommended he be remanded in custody overnight. Judge Pamela Goulding agreed to set over the matter until Monday for a possible bail hearing.
