The Corner Brook woman who inappropriately accessed patient files while employed with Western Health pled guilty to violating the Personal Health Information Act in provincial court in Corner Brook Wednesday afternoon.
Donna Colbourne was charged with violating the act in April 2013 following an investigation into the privacy breach by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
The investigation was launched after the health authority went public with the breach in August 2012. Colbourne had accessed the files of 1,043 patients from June 2011 to May 2012.
She was fired from her position as a clerk at Western Memorial Regional Hospital following discovery of the breach.
Colbourne wasn't in court for Wednesday's appearance. She'll be sentenced Aug. 26.
