Jury selected in Kenny Green murder case

The jury for the trial of accused murderer Kenny Green has been selected.
Eight women and four men were chosen from more than 140 people today at Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John's.

Green's trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday. It's expected to last three to four weeks.

Green has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

The 35-year-old Mount Pearl man is accused of killing 47-year-old Joey Whalen, who died in hospital on March 17, 2013, two days after he was taken there by ambulance from a house on Tessier Place in downtown St John's.

Green had a brief stint of freedom in January of this year, when he was granted bail after a judicial review. However, he was back in custody a day later for breaching court orders.

He was also the target of an attack at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in February, when several inmates assaulted him in the prison's chapel.

Green is represented by defence lawyer Randy Piercey is representing the accused. Sheldon Steeves is handling the Crown prosecution.
