The RCMP in Bay St. George had a busy weekend, with two men charged with possession of drugs near a high school and two suspects in separate incidents charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Two men arrested on drug charges near high school
Two 20-year-old men were arrested on drug charges in a vehicle near a high school in Stephenville Friday night around 9:30 p.m.
According to the Bay St. George RCMP, one man is from St. George's and the other is from Kippens. Police seized about seven grams of what is believed to be cocaine and seven grams of marijuana.
Both men were charged with possession of a controlled substance and released for another court appearance at a later date.
Man arrested after fleeing from police
A Stephenville Crossing man was arrested early Saturday morning after fleeing from police investigating a complaint of a disturbance outside a liquor establishment in Stephenville.
The Bay St. George RCMP responded to the complaint around 1 a.m. Saturday, but the suspect fled in a vehicle.
Officers located the suspect in his hometown, but according to the RCMP the man fought with officers and was subsequently arrested for impaired driving, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, causing a disturbance and refusing a blood demand. The suspect will appear in court in July.
Charges laid for vehicle break-ins
A 25-year-old Stephenville man is facing several charges in connection with break-ins into vehicles in the town early Saturday morning.
The Bay St. George RCMP responded to a call from a resident around 3:50 a.m. who reported seeing someone breaking into vehicles.
After investigating to the complaint, a suspect was located and confronted. He's also alleged to have broken into a shed in the neighbourhood.
The RCMP said stolen property was recovered, but the suspect resisted arrested and as a result he faces numerous charges for break and entry, theft Under $5,000, mischief, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The man was held in custody until a court appearance.
