Incident described as 'minor' and construction work continues

The 12-storey building is under construction and the injury reported was to a worker employed at the site.

The injury was “of a minor nature,” according to Supt. Don Byrne with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.

The fire department responded to the workplace accident at about 9:20 a.m. “On arrival we assisted (paramedics) with the patient and turned the scene over to Occupational Health and Safety for investigation,” he said.

There has been no word as to exactly what may have caused the worker’s injury.

The office building’s construction has seen the death of two workers in October 2012.

A 61-year-old died after falling off the building and dropping six storeys. The second worker reportedly died of health-related causes.

A representative for ServiceNL has confirmed Occupational Health and Safety continues to investigate the death of the worker who fell off the building.

There is a two-year window to lay charges against an employer under the OHS Act, if they are found to be warranted.

A separate investigation is underway today, in relation to the worker injury this morning.
