The man, 31, and the woman, 32, appeared in provincial court in Grand Bank Thursday and were released to return to court on June 4.

Members of the RCMP’s federal policing operations in Burin, with assistance of RCMP detachments in Marystown and Grand Bank, searched the residence on Wednesday after allegations an individual was in possession of a handgun and was selling illegal drugs.

Seized at the residence were marijuana and a white powder substance believed to be cocaine, and various other drug paraphernalia.

Weapons seized include numerous guns and other weapons — three starter pistols including clips, brass knuckles, throwing star, Taser, baton, knives, samurai swords and pepper spray.

Charges against both include possession for the purpose of trafficking in marijuana and cocaine, and the male has also been charged with possession of anabolic steroids.

They have also both been charged, under the Criminal Code of Canada, with conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and with possession of prohibited weapons (brass knuckles, throwing star, and taser). Further charges are pending in relation to the guns and ammunition clips that were seized.

The RCMP believes this seizure will have an impact on the local drug problem of the area and will make the communities safer by removing these weapons from the streets.

Anyone with information concerning illegal activity is asked to contact the RCMP or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
