For the eighth year, Sci-Fi on the Rock is about to descend on the St. John’s area, complete with a new set of people famous in the science fiction industry for fans to meet and greet.  Justin Foley helps organize the annual event.

“A lot of time it starts off with a lot of word of mouth,” he says about getting the stars to come to this festival.

If one actor has a good time here, they’ll tell others.

Foley also has a go-to agent who represents a lot of science fiction peeps and gives him the lowdown on who might be available.

This year, the group has the following people coming:  Michael Hogan, who played Colonel Saul Tigh in the Battlestar Galactica series; Musetta Vander, who Foley says has “been in everything”; Aron Eisenberg, who played Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Erin Fitzgerald, a well-known voice over actress; and Mike McCarty, an Oscar award winning make-up artist.

Foley says one of the issues with booking them is that they could get a new role in something that conflicts with them being able to make the festival.

“They’re well known for characters that they’ve played, but they also continue to play different characters,” he says.

The visitors are a highlight of the festival, though, which allows for a lot of interaction with the stars.

There’s also an international film festival, a dance, panels with the movie star guests, a costume contest and more.

There are lots of options for people who want to get into the festival which is taking place all weekend at the Holiday Inn in St. John’s, depending on if they want to go for the whole weekend, just a day or in a family group.

All the intergalactic details can be found at www.scifiontherock.com.
