Ending homelessness involves more than just providing affordable housing, the minister responsible for housing told delegates at a forum at St. John’s City Hall Tuesday.

Kevin O’Brien told participants at the Ending Homelessness in St. John’s Community forum that people with complex issues need more than housing.
“We, as a government, need to continue to partner with community groups and make sure resources available to meet those needs,” said O’Brien.
The forum brought together representatives from the community who have a role to play in providing services to homeless people.
They were divided into groups and spent a day and a half discussing funding, affordable housing and the issues that affect a person’s ability to maintain a home.
O’Brien said the provincial government has made strides against homelessness but a long-term solution is needed.
“I can go on about what we’ve done, but you know, hopefully through your solutions we will find solutions that we can use for other parts of the province,” said O’Brien.
