Hefty fine for snow crab fisherman who violated licence condition

Randy Emberley of Southern Harbour was fined $8,500 in provincial court in Clarenville May 7 for violating a fishing licence condition, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced today.

Emberley was convicted for fishing snow crab in two different areas during a single fishing trip.

An investigation into the fishing activity of Emberley resulted in fishery officers searching the fishing vessel Christina Lorraine at Port in St. Lawrence. Subsequent investigation into the fishing activity led to the charges.
