Despite a rough weather start, 349 hikers made a showing at the 14th annual East Coast Trail Tely Hike which helped celebrate the trail’s 20th birthday.
As every year, the event was also an opportunity to fundraise for the association and more than $180,000 was raised through hikers and corporate sponsors. And that’s a number that will lilely go up over the next couple of days.
The fundraiser kicked off this 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning at George V Park with breakfast, prize draws and hundreds of hikers.
The top three fundraising teams collectively brought in more than $16,000.
The trail now consists of 265 kilometers of hiking trail. This year’s Tely Hike was sponsored by The Telegram and the City of St. John’s.
