You always knew the day would come when Mark Critch would clone himself. Well, not really — but he’s competing against himself for a Canadian Comedy Award this year, in the Best Writing in a TV Series or Special category.

He’s been nominated twice: once as a co-writer on an episode of “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” the other for an episode of “Satisfaction.”

“I’m competing against myself so it will be comforting when we both lose together. At least I won’t go home alone,” Critch joked.

The nomination is one of five for “22 Minutes,” which is also named in the Best TV Show and Best Direction in a TV Series or Special (Vivieno Caldinelli and Michael Lewis) categories. Show stars Cathy Jones and Susan Kent are both vying for the award for Best Female Performance in a TV Series for their work on the show.

Local actor Mark O’Brien is up for the award for Best Male Performance in a TV Series for his work playing Des Courtney on “Republic of Doyle.”

The Canadian Comedy Awards honours Canadian comedians for their achievements in live, TV, film, radio and web comedy. This year’s award winners will be announced during a ceremony in Ottawa in the fall.
