A person aboard a marine vessel is being airlifted to a St. John’s hospital Saturday following a request for help relayed to search-and-rescue officials.

Search-and-rescue personnel from Gander rescued a person aboard a marine vessel Saturday requiring medical attention.

According to Joint Task Force Atlantic, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax dispatched a Cormorant helicopter from Gander to meet the boat, located approximately 226 nautical miles east of St. John’s.

SAR Techs from 103 Squadron had to hoist the patient onto the helicopter. As of late Saturday afternoon, the helicopter was still making its way to St. John’s to transfer the patient.
