Cabin owners evacuated from area due to close proximity

A forest fire burned kilometres from Labrador West along a transmission line near Blueberry Hill Monday, June 30 until its containment later that day.

The Department of Natural Resources, Labrador City and Wabush fire fighters, a helicopter and a water bomber were dispatched to the area at approximately 1 p.m.  to work alongside Highway Enforcement and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

Blueberry Hill, a popular cabin location decimated in last year’s large fire, was closed and evacuated.

A second water bomber was also called in.

Just two days prior a fire on White Lake, near the Iron Ore Company of Canada’s site in Labrador City, was contained.

Organizations: Department of Natural Resources, Trans-Labrador Highway, Iron Ore Company of Canada
