Drugs were recently seized from a vehicle stopped at a traffic checkpoint in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The checkpoint was in place on Hamilton River Road last Friday when RCMP officers checked a vehicle shortly after 11:30 p.m.

A 38-year-old man from Grand Falls-Windsor and a 24-year-old man from Harbour Main were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance — marijuana in this case.

The 38-year-old also received a seven-day driving suspension for having more than 50 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millimetres of blood.

Both men were released from custody and will appear in court on Sept. 9.

This is where the metric system fails the illiterate. Why not say 1 cm of blood and not 100 millimetres?

Blood is measured in millilitres (ml) or cubic centimetres (cc) not in millimetres or centimetres which are units of length, not volume.
