Man airlifted from vessel off southern coast of Newfoundland

A man needing medical treatment was airlifted from a vessel at sea off the southern coast of Newfoundland Thursday.

According to Joint Task Force Atlantic, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax sent a Cormorant helicopter from Gander to meet the vessel, located approximately 85 nautical miles southwest of Burin.

Search-and-rescue technicians hoisted the 62-year-old man onto the helicopter. He was transported to an ambulance waiting for him on land and then taken to the Health Sciences Centre.
