A police spokesman confirmed Friday that there’s still no suspect in the  case of a homicide in North River that occurred during the early hours of Sunday, June 29.

Dale Porter, a man in his early 40s and the father of two young children, suffered serious injuries and was found outside his home at about 4 a.m.

He later died.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, and left many area residents on edge as police work to solve the high-profile case.

The RCMP has stressed that there is no threat to public safety.

Various media outlets, including TC Media, reported Thursday that the RCMP had arrested a man, and that charges were imminent.

Staff Sgt. Boyd Merrill said that information did not come from the RCMP.

The man in question was released late in the day on Thursday without being charged. That news was greeted with anger and frustration by residents, with many voicing their displeasure on social media.

Meanwhile, Merrill confirmed that dozens of interviews have been conducted to date, and officers have used the information to help advance the investigation.
