The provincial government says the cost of freight will be paid for on Air Labrador’s scheduled freight delivery on Thursday to assist with the delivery of groceries and other essential items to coastal communities of Labrador.

A second aircraft is being chartered to assist in delivering freight to the communities which are Black Tickle, Rigolet, Postville, Makkovik, Hopedale, Natuashish and Nain.

The additional air freight service is to provide groceries and other essential items until the MV Astron returns to service. The MV Astron is scheduled to depart Lewisporte for Labrador on Saturday.

Currently, officials from the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office are contacting the 16 retailers in the seven coastal communities to advise them of this opportunity.

All freight going on these flights must be delivered to Air Labrador Cargo in Happy Valley-Goose Bay by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

If retailers have questions they can contact Jeannine Chaulk at 1-888-435-8111 or 709-896-1780.
