Traffic in both directions along the Trans Canada Highway near Clarenville was halted by a vehicle fire Sunday afternoon.
Heavy smoke forced Clarenville RCMP to stop traffic in all four lanes, according to a news release issued shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday. The fire was reportedly two kilometres west of Clarenville.
Less than an hour later, police reported two lanes were open to allow vehicles to pass through the area.
The fire represented Sunday’s second vehicle fire to impact highway traffic. An earlier one near the turnoff to Makinsons prevented eastbound traffic from moving past that accident scene.
