The ferry to Pilley’s Island in Notre Dame Bay will be out of service Tuesday due to a weekend accident in which the MV Norcon Galatea struck the dock.
Passengers will be accommodated by temporary air service.
The incident, caused by a mechanical failure, occurred Sunday at 2:15 pm. The ferry received some minor contact damage, as did the wharf, a spokesman for Transportation and Works said.
The vessel’s owner, Norcon Marine Services, is investigating and parts are en route.
Upon the ferry striking the dock, service was cancelled for the remainder of Sunday and serviced resumed Monday on a limited schedule.
A couple of vehicles onboard collided, resulting in some damage.
At the time of the incident, the captain reported there were no injuries, but the department has since learned of one person being treated for an injury in the mishap.
