Capt. Paul Rodgers
Paul Rodgers of Carbonear, a well-known mariner and ship's captain, was returning to his home from a motorcycle run up the North Shore of Conception Bay when his bike collided with a white pickup truck.
Rodgers was transported to hospital, but later died.
Charges have yet to be laid in the incident.
RCMP Sgt. Greg Hicks said the item is still “a very active investigation.”
Police have spoken with witnesses and the driver of the pickup truck and are now in the process of receiving information from the vehicle.
“Part of those serious crashes involves downloading data from the vehicle,” said Hicks.
The hope is this data will help provide a clearer picture of what transpired on the evening of June 23.
“We just want to make sure all of the mechanical pieces and the data from the vehicle matches that,” said Hicks. “It would give us a clearer picture of what happened, because everyone sees something different in a traumatic thing like that.”
Hicks could not say if this data will lead to a charge, but police have been in contact with the family, providing them with updates.
