Corner Brook man claims national media afraid to touch story

The Corner Brook man who hopes to get the Canadian prime minister charged with advocating for genocide suspects some people are not taking him seriously.

“It’s not like I’m filing a civil suit. These are actual criminal charges for an actual crime that’s been committed,” Andrew Abbass said Tuesday.

Abbass is accusing Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird of advocating for genocide. Allegations concerning the use of propaganda, breach of trust and uttering threats are also included in his complaint filed last Monday with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

Those allegations relate to past comments made by both men in relation to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The Harper government has been a vocal supporter of Israel.

The conflict between the two neighbouring nations has become very violent in recent weeks. Reports from The Associated Press indicated 109 Palestinians were killed Tuesday, bringing the death toll up to at least 1,210. Israel has reported 56 deaths, including 53 of its soldiers.

The RNC passed the file with Abbass’ complaint to the RCMP. According to Abbass, the RNC has since made requests for an update, but the liaison officer with the RCMP is apparently on vacation.

“My issue is that this whole problem is going to get lost in the hubbub of what they’re continuing to do since then,” said Abbass, adding he is not aware when the liaison officer will be back from vacation.

Since he first spoke with media last week about his complaint, the story has been shared through other media organizations. However, he is disappointed national media have not taken an interest in his complaint against Harper and Baird.

“There was no real interest, or people just thought it was a joke.”

Abbass created an online petition calling on the International Criminal Court to arrest Harper and Baird for creating hate propaganda and promoting genocide.

It has attracted 1,400 names. The allegation of hate propaganda relates to a video titled “Through Fire and Water” the Conservative Party of Canada’s official YouTube account uploaded on July 18.

“Fourteen-hundred people have seen that and agreed that that’s hate propaganda,” he said.

As Christians and Jews, we have rights. As Muslims, you have no rights to peace and freedom of choice. You must kill. The Koran says they must kill pigs and infidels, meaning Jews and Christians so that they can control the world and enforce Sharia law, destroying our human rights. Love and appreciate what you have and speak out against terrorism. Israel is the size of New Jersey, a small democratic state. Bethlehem is at least 80% Muslim/Arab. The Dome of the Rock is off limits to Jews which was once their Holy Temple. All who enter are under heavy surveillance by Muslims. The Knesset consists of many races and religions. I have been in Israel. They live together in peace. Palestinians/Arabs/Muslims have all the rest of the Middle East, leave Israel alone. Would any state or country lie down and take the thousands of rockets fired at it and not defend itself? Could they rest knowing there are hundreds of tunnels under them filled with terrorists and ammunition? You can't negotiate with terrorists. Their aim is to paralyze the world. We have allowed them into our country and "cells" are everywhere. They are becoming influential in our country, lots of money behind them. History will prove their intent. So many of us in Canada and the US have rejected the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, the true living God, and now there is a spiritual vacuum ready to be filled with anything that tickles our ears and feeds our lust, especially money and many virgins for men. If you don't like Canada, leave it, go back to where you were born. If you are happy here, love it support it and conform to it, don't expect us to conform to that oppression.

you ever read the old testament? it endorses genocide and ethnic cleansing, slavery, wife beating, rape, you name it... are Christians today to be held to account for that? then why hold muslims to account for the koran, or should I say , your interpetation of it. one could just as easily read passages from the bible to prove how violent and barbaric Christians are.

"Would any state or country lie down and take the thousands of rockets fired at it and not defend itself?" no it would not. then why do you expect Gazans to live happly under blockade in an open air prison. you need to read the non-isreali accounts of what is happening group of refugees was given a home and created another group of refugees by driving the Palestinians out of their own homes...that is the root of what is happening today..

What an utterly ignorant and hateful thing to say. First and foremost, you're regurgitating arguments about what the Qu'ran says without having researched any of it yourself. Islam is predicated on peace, but you'd know this if you actually researched it Extremists do not represent Islam; nor do they embody the values of the same. To judge an entire group based on the actions of a few is illogical and stupid. As a Christian, how would you like it if you were judged by the actions of Westboro Baptist church? Or other fringe Christian cult groups? Second, you're knowledge of the middle east and the history is completely void. The jewish population has been living peacefully under Arab rule since the crusades. In fact, when Christians did take Jerusalem, they forced conversion on everyone. Muslims respected each groups right to believe and practice how they wished. But, don't take my word for it, a simple search on google will quickly educate you on the facts. Finally, this is not a religious war. It's not Muslims against Jews; it's Zionist Israelis against Palestinians. There are groups within Israel who also oppose their government's agenda. It's genocidal and for you to advocate for their right to attack the Palestinians is really no different than a certain European group in the 1930s and 1940s. Wake up.. Stop drinking the Koolaide and do some research before you spout additional hate-filled rhetoric.

TO RAHIM R.. Your hands are stained deep red with the blood of thousands of Jews CRIMINALLY MASSACRED throughout 1400 years of ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF MY LAND. Blood spilled by your upright forefathers under the pretext of SPIRITUAL SUPREMACY …and then you foolishly expect people to GO AND LEARN FROM THE INTERNET … so here you are… The Qadi, Ahmed b. Talib (9th century), compelled the dhimmis ..( that would mean the PROTECTED PEOLE OF THE BOOK … or rather second or nearly no status civilians Christians and Jews) to wear upon their shoulder a patch of white cloth (riqa') that bore the image of an ape (for the Jews) and a pig (for the Christians), and to nail onto their doors a board bearing the sign of a monkey Decrees ordering the destruction of synagogues were enacted in Egypt and Syria (1014, 1293-4, 1301-2), Iraq (854-859, 1344) and Yemen (1676). Despite the Koran's prohibition, Jews were forced to convert to Islam or face death in Yemen (1165 and 1678), Morocco (1275, 1465 and 1790-92) and Baghdad (1333 and 1344). The situation of Jews in Arab lands reached a low point in the 19th century. Jews in most of North Africa (including Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Morocco) were forced to live in ghettos. In Morocco, which contained the largest Jewish community in the Islamic Diaspora, Jews were made to walk barefoot or wear shoes of straw when outside the ghetto. Even Muslim children participated in the degradation of Jews, by throwing stones at them or harassing them in other ways. The frequency of anti-Jewish violence increased, and many Jews were executed on charges of missionary activity…YOU SHOULD LEARN SOMETHING BASIC ABOUT JUDAISM …MISSIONARY ACTIVITY IS ILLEGAL!!!!. Ritual murder accusations against the Jews became commonplace in the Ottoman Empire. As far as Gaza is concerned you Muslims are and always will be mentally incapable of dealing with the hump on your backs. If you throw stones at a lion, be MAN enough not to whimper when he bites your head off. Hundreds of thousands of Jews were exiled from Muslim States in the 1950's with only their shirts on their backs …you guys promptly appropriated all Jewish property and monies… but funny enough we never filed a complaint in ANY court. You peaceful war mongers have an ongoing refugee problem for the past 60 years and feel that it is a JUSTIFYABLE SITUATION. You screw head… YOU and all your ISIS/HAMAS/JIHAD henchmen are solely responsible for whoever was killed in Gaza!

ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo, was investigating charging Harper, for war crimes and crimes against humanity. He said, Harper bombed Libya, with no declaration of war. Nor, did Libya declare war on Canada. Harper bombed many innocent people. Harper had also blocked the investigation of, the torture of the Detainees. Harper prorogued Parliament so, he wouldn't have to answer to his crimes I know Bush can't leave the U.S. He would be arrested if, he was caught out of the U.S. Britain's PM was also under investigation too. Then the U.N. requested, Harper join 60 other countries to refer Syria for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Harper point blank refused. Then the U.N. Security Council banned Harper a seat. Harper had the gall to be livid over that. Canada had never been banned from any organization.. Harper is also the one and only Canadian PM ever, to be held in contempt of Parliament. Harper has no honor, decency, ethics nor morals, what-so-ever. Harper has not one saving grace, he is rotten to the core with corruption.

As long as Israel uses the "God's Chosen People" and the covenant given to Abraham as license to steal land to restore Israel's original borders in the Old Testament, there will be conflict. This is 2014 people. Stop using mythology handed down by a people who thought the world was flat.

After being harassed in the usual hate-Jews attitude of the British people from as far back as Edward 1, Disraeli once said in the British parliament… Yes I am a Jew and when the ancestors of the Right Honorable gentleman were brutal savages in an unknown island, mine were priests in the temple of Solomon. It is quite clear when it comes to the upholding of baseless ignorant Neanderthal style "Flatness Theories" of how the universe functions, who are in need of re-indoctrination and who not!!! Let's set the record straight… my people never heard of that BS until they came, sadly enough, into contact with your riffraff cavemen associates. No surprise to me of course …but it will be for you that the roundness of the world, orbits, star positions, gravity …you name it, is all written down in our holy books for all and sundry to read! You can read I hope! You will also discover that your beloved Aristotle all the way down to Darwin and so on have led you and ALL your floppy neighbors awry for forever so long…don't you get tired of bashing your head against the wall when you ought to simply walk around and see the wonderful view on the other side!!!

The guy is obviously not from this planet., I and other Canadians are darned proud that we are standing up for what is right. Apart from that the only people advocating genocide are Hamas, check out their charter. Ask yourselves why Hamas continues lobbing thousands of rockets into Israel if not to deliberately keep the war going. All part of Hamas Dead Baby Strategy. Also ask why Hamas doesn't spend their aid money on bomb shelters instead of terror tunnels.. and on and on

You really need to do your research instead of having people tell you how to think. The tunnels were not created to transport missiles. They might be used for that now, but they were initially designed to smuggle in food and medicine which is being blockaded by Israel. As for the genocide, 1900 Palestinians have been killed and how many Israelis? A country being invaded has a right to defend itself. That's all that Hamas is doing.. defending itself. Israel has started this and every other conflict by expanding their illegal settlements into Palestinian land. So, if you and your family were kicked out of your house, only to have it torn down and built for someone else; or if your kids were being shot at while they were walking to school; or you are not allowed to leave your neighbourhood, country nor are you allowed to find work or feed your family.. wouldn't you be a little angry? I know I would.

So, as I understand it, you can kill anyone with complete impunity simply by claiming that Hamas is responsible. Israel has a right to defend itself, (using weapons of offence) Palestinians don't. Any building, neighborhood is fair game so long as you say it’s a militant stronghold. Never mind that Gaza is the most densely populated place on earth with nowhere to run. You can scream genocide, as long as you don't point to the people who are actually committing genocide. Your reference points need only go as far as last month, but don't mention the illegal settlements, land grabs, and the conditions that Palestinians are forced to live under, not by Hamas, but by Israel. You can talk about the unjustified killing of a few dozen Israeli soldiers, while smirking at the hundreds of Palestinian civilians slaughtered. To a civilian, living in Gaza, the terror is very real, very big and it comes from Israel. But somehow mass murder can still be justified so long as the hyperboyle comes from Israel and its apolgists.

ignorance and racism are alive and well in Newfoundland, Canada and around teh world. Arabs, muslims are collectively the victims of well orchestrated international campaigns to equate them with terrorism, fundamentalism and therefore a threat to so called liberal democracies...yet its liberal democracies like Canada, France, UK, USA etc. who go around inciting civil war and genocide in Islamic countries in the name of regime change and in the name of (somehow...)Freedom...yet we see how that works in Iraq and Libya, and potentially in Syria...where we have deposed secure secular governments (yes dictatorships but we do business with dictators all the time)...only see their countries become failed states and the play ground of islamic jihadists who never were more then fringe groups but who now are a real threat... in the west, Freedom really means a free hand for western corporations to plunder the natural resources of someone else's country. that leave Muslims in general branded as 'bad' to make it easier for western countries to gain support from their populations to attack these other countries that are no threat to them... the spill over here is that many misinformed people simply tune out this current issue, because it involves the Terrorists Hamas...who like the IRA , were formed to resist a foreign occupation and will eventually (without a doubt) become an accepted political party, just as Sin Fein (political arm of the IRA) has been and the PLO (Fatah)... it comes down to ignorance and racism.

People who voted for Hamas and therefore support terrorists are legitimate targets. Hamas said the same thing about Israeli civilians. As for setlements, they are not illegal. And palestinians have their own country now. It is called Jordan

    • paul
      July 30, 2014 - 14:07

not a terrorist- yes you are. so, anyone who voted for hamas is a legitimate target? what about the Gazans who did not vote for them...can you tell them apart when the bombs are falling? you are promoting genocide. that is a crime. Palestinians country is Jordan? what history books do you read? Settlements are legal ? again ,where do you get your information...the bulk of world legal opinion says its illegal to transfer your population into territory conquered in war, even if it were a defensive war... they steal palestinian land and wonder why they are hated? its all about the land.

    • Not a terrorist
      July 30, 2014 - 18:42

It is not about the land. If palestinians wanted to have their own country, they would have it long time ago. They just hate jews and Israel, the only liberal democracy in the middle east. And now palestinians are saying that all jews over the age of 18 are legitimate targets. I just made an extrame example to show who really is committing genocide. Hamas and terrorists who support it. Most Palestinians live in Jordan now. They should settle down because they will jot get even a piece of Israel.

    • paul
      July 31, 2014 - 07:13

not a terrorist- why would Palestinians settle for a land in someone else's home...yes there are many Palestinians in Jordan, in Syria, in Lebanon, etc, but they are displaced people not in their own lands. Arabs are not all the same, any more than Europeans are all the same, which btw brings me to the next point, why do European refugees have a higher right to the lands than Palestinian refugees? this IS about the land . there was no significant anymosity between Arabs adn Jews before the zionist colonization of Palestine....for centuries Jews got along fine in Arab countries while being persecuted horribly in Christian some history. Its about the land that used to belong to the Palestinians and was taken from them by Isrealis, in many cases at the barrel of a gun or a hand grenade.

@Chantal: What the Nazis did to the jews in the Warsaw ghetto was not a collective punishment, as the goal was not punishment for doing something. The goal was anihilation for existing. Seven thousand people were transported daily to an extermination camp. A very poor analogy that you made.

    • Chantal
      July 30, 2014 - 11:59

Check your history books, it was very much collective punishment, a policiy that went far beyond the Ghetto into other occupied places where 50 or more people were executed for the death of 1 German soldier. You may also want to look up "Warsaw Ghetto Uprising." Mine is a very appropriate analogy.

Mr. Abbass (not Palestinian President Abbas) 'suspects some people are not taking him seriously'. Ya think? This story is about the only amusing thing I've read on this terrible ongoing tragedy in Gaza. Unfortunately this kind of ridiculous hyperbole - quite similar in many ways to the daily diatribe from Hamas itself - adds nothing to rational debate. The civilian casualties are horrific but not unexpected given the demonstrated eagerness by Hamas to pick the densest population of women and children from which to fire its rockets at Israel. These innocent people are canon fodder in the Hamas strategy to gain international sympathy. Israel has a right to defend itself and to close the tunnels used by terrorists. That said, Israel needs to do more to minimize collateral damage and civilian casualties. No doubt there are war mongers on both sides of this issue but only a fool would conclude this latest round of fighting was initiated by Israel. You cannot expect to fire rockets at your neighbour - even if you do it ineptly - without expecting some form of retaliation. Just as you should not expect to go unpunished for capturing, torturing and killing three innocent teenagers. Mr. Abbass is disappointed the national media has not run with his silly story. Frankly I'm disappointed the Telegram chose to do so. Must be a slow news day.

So Hamas is far from perfect. Hateful even. But when bombs are falling on your house and your daughter just died in a UN School blown up by an Israeli shell, you're certainly not going to embrace those Israelis sitting on the hillside cheering every time an Israeli shell hits its target. That is really hateful.

I just watched the Conservatives video, its is hopelessly one sided, misinformed and dishonest and to be scorned and refuted by anyone who cares about humanity , peace, and rights of people to live in dignity. it may be argued to support genocide, simply because harper supports Isreal absolutely ,and that is what Israel is doing right now in Gaza...genocide. they are killing civilians and blaming hamas for hiding behind them...which is disputable in the first place and not a valid reason to go ahead and bomb them anyway, in the second place. murdering Arab civilians by the hundreds is genocide.

      July 30, 2014 - 09:42

"Not a terrorist?" this started before hamas started chucking rockets...when the 3 Isreali teenagers went missing, the IDF arrested hundreds of Palestinians, killing 9 in the process, invaded homes, etc in a population wide crack down, even though they knew the boys were dead and had detained (but not charged) two low level hamas members who did not act on hamas' behalf...then a Palestinian boy was kidnapped by Isrealis (arrested and charged) and burned to death (some reports have it that gas was poured down his throat then lit)...the IDF routinely shoots Gazans that stray 'within range' near the security fence, be they farmers or metal pickers...and then hamas started firing rockets...which I agree is wrong and an act of terrorism. however to then condone all the civlian deaths as hamas fault and not a problem, is morally bankrupt and highly racist in my opinion. this is not a blood hatred , muslims out to get jews, its all about land. you need to read non isreali sources for history and news.

Isreal has the right to defend itself and to exist (because it does exist and is a recognised state). the Gazans also have the right to resist occupation and oppression ..although they do not have the right to use indiscriminate rockets, any more than Israel has the right to bomb UN Schools , hospitals, homes, mosques, playgrounds, a tiny enclave where the people are imprisoned behind a wall. morally bankrupt and profoundly ignorant or reality.

Yes, Hamas is a terrorist organization and yes, Israel has the right to defend itself. But, look at who is paying the ultimate price - innocent civilians. A couple of days ago four children died on a beach playing soccer, were they hiding rockets in the sand castles. REASONABLE FORCE - Go after Hamas, but leave innocent civilians alone. Where has humanity gone? Harper and his Cons are only interested in pandering for votes and funds, nothing else. It's very SIMPLE: the Harper Government is not supporting, funding, and arming Hamas. They are supporting and abetting the Israeli terror in Gaza, the West Bank, the Occupied Territories, and Lebanon. Citing the existance of a "terrorists " operating inside a besiged city as a justification for collective punishment is the same reasoning the Nazis used to terrorize Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto.
