UPDATE: Fire on Parade Street roof quickly knocked down

Flames coming from the roof of 7 Parade St. in St. John's were quickly knocked down by firefighters from the St. John's Regional Fire Department around 11:30 Wednesday night after a hole was cut in the roof to gain access to the source of smoke.

Newfoundland Power has cut power to Nos. 7 and 9 Parade Street while firefighters continue to work. Some firefighters brought hoses in through the front door of No. 7.

Firefighters from the St. John's Regional Fire Department have cut a hole in the roof of 7 Parade St. in St. John's in order to gain access to the source of smoke.

When the hole was cut, flames were visible from the roof.

Smoke can be seen coming from No. 7 and neighbouring homes, and it appears a fire is trapped inside the roof.
