A St. John’s man has been charged with sexually assaulting a youth.
Christopher Butt, 38, appeared in St. John’s provincial court this afternoon, facing four charges: invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, aggravated sexual assault, and uttering threats to damage or destroy property.

Christopher Butt, 38, of St. John’s is escorted by sheriff’s officers at provincial court Monday afternooon.

The charges were laid after the RNC investigated a report of a sexual assault in St. John’s on July 27. There is a publication ban on the name of the complainant, who police said Monday is a female youth known to Butt.

A statement from the police Monday said the youth was assaulted over a six-week period, and was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Butt appeared briefly in court Saturday and made another appearance Monday afternoon to set a bail hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday morning.
