Firefighters with the St. John's Regional Fire Department knocked down a fire in two attached homes on Allan Square in St. John's Thursday night.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says both homes received moderate damage and the fire has been passed over to fire investigators to determine the cause.
Crews were called there just past 11 p.m. and were met with heavy fire and smoke in the upstairs of the home.
Acting Shift-Supt. Don Feehan said there was extensive fire, smoke and water damage to the home as well as smoke and some water damage to the attached south home.
Eastern Health paramedics left the scene walking to an ambulance with a female resident of the home to be assessed and taken to hospital for further medical treatment. Red Cross emergency services were also on the scene, as was the RNC which is investigating the caudse of the fire.

Firefighters are on the roof of #10, where smoke and flames can be seen. They have walked along the roofs of adjoining houses to check that the fire hasn't extended.
