Another charge has been added to the dozens facing James Robert Dwyer, a contractor accused of defrauding many of his customers.

Judge Mike Madden read aloud the new charge for fraud under $5,000 in St. John’s provincial court Thursday morning. Dwyer is in custody and appeared by video link from Her Majesty’s Penitentiary.
He now faces 46 charges, including 20 for fraud under $5,000. The remainder mostly relate to breaching court undertakings.
Defence lawyer Michelle Elliott told the court she has been recently assigned to the case and needs time to review the evidence. She said she hopes there can be a quick resolution to the case.
“You want a quick turnaround,” Madden replied, with tongue seemingly in cheek as he held up the many files related to Dwyer, 53.
The new charge comes from Holyrood RCMP, relating to a matter from September 2013 in Avondale.
Dwyer’s case will return to court Sept. 12 for a status update.
