UPDATE: Man to appear in court today on confinement, assault charges

A 60-year-old Mount Pearl man, suspected of assaulting a woman early this morning, is due to appear in provincial court in St. John’s today.

Jerome George Fitzgerald faces several charges, including forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault and uttering threats.

The charges stem from an incident that happened in Mount Pearl.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Police were called to the scene, where a female was reportedly injured by Fitzgerald.

She was treated in hospital for injuries and was released shortly afterwards.

Man charged with forcible confinement, assault with weapon

A 60-year-old man was charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault and uttering threats in an incident early this morning in Mount Pearl.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the incident around 12:30 a.m. A female victim was treated in hospital for injuries and released. The accused was held in custody overnight and is expected to appear in court this morning.
