A local boat tour company charged with disturbing a whale has a new trial date set.

When the case of Iceberg Quest was called in provincial court in St. John's today, the company was represented by its new lawyer Randy Piercey, who was retained earlier this month.

The trial - which was originally set for November - has been reset for May 17-18.

The company has pleaded not guilty to one count of disturbing a marine mammal as a result of an incident that reportedly happened Aug. 5, 2014, in Freshwater Bay.

The boat's skipper, Walter Reddick, faces the same charge. Reddick, who is represented by defence lawyer Kevin Stamp, will have his case back in court Feb. 24 for a status update.
