Police search for possible second occupant

One man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday morning on the Pouch Cove highway in Flatrock and police were looking for a second person who may have also been in the vehicle.

The accident happened around 12:10 a.m. when the small SUV left the road and overturned after striking a driveway embankment. The extensively damaged vehicle came to rest upright in the middle of the road. The male victim was taken to hospital as police, paramedics and firefighters searched the nearby woods and ditches after finding indications that a second person may have also been in the damaged SUV.

No one had been found up to the time The Telegram left the scene.

The Torbay volunteer fire department, Eastern Health paramedics, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers and RNC Police Dog Services responded to the incident. 

In its overnight media report, the RNC said this morning that the investigation into the single-vehicle crash is continuing.

There's no further information yet regarding the possibility of another person being in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

RNC looking for witnesses to crash

The RNC issued a news release this morning asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact contact the RNC Accident Investigation section at 729-8654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The RNC said vehicle was a 2007 Gray Kia Sportage, which was travelling north in the area of 235 Pouch Cove Highway at approximately 12:10 am when the vehicle left the roadway; before colliding with a culvert.
