Man allegedly cut up at house party

Police are now canvassing the public for information after a 21-year-old man was seriously assaulted with a weapon at a St. John’s house party Friday night.

Police say the assault took place on Mahogany Place in Southlands.

The Telegram was on the scene of the attack.

A witness at the scene who knew the victim and who wished to remain unidentified, told The Telegram that the man was a resident of the home in the neighborhood where a party was taking place.

The victim was apparently trying to eject some of the partygoers when the situation turned violent and the assault happened.

The witness said it appears the man was assaulted with a beer bottle and received several lacerations or stab wounds to the head, neck and body area and that several people were involved in the incident.

Police also spoke to the same witness who spoke to The Telegram.

The RNC has now made a post on their Facebook page about the incident. They say they are looking to speak with every person who was in attendance at the house party on Mahogany Place in Southlands.

They are asking any potential witnesses or persons with relevant information to call 729-8000, choose option 1 and ask to speak with the major crime unit regarding this matter.

Earlier story:

One man has been taken to hospital following what appears to be a serious assault in the Southlands area of St. John’s late Friday night.

An Eastern Health ambulance and St. John’s Regional fire department rescue truck were seen in front of the home along with two marked patrol vehicles, an unmarked police vehicle and an RNC identification services truck. Two plainclothes officers as well as an identification officer with a camera were also spotted leaving the home. Police also spoke to the same witness who spoke to The Telegram.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary would only confirm that a house party had gotten out of hand at the home and that they were investigating the incident but would give no more details.

It is not believed that the injuries to the victim are life-threatening.

We need to know what race theses attackers are and whether they are refugees or immigrants. How will we be able to make stupid generalizations otherwise?

as one can tell, there are probably lots of witnesses. The person who did the assult may have a bad reputation so they are fearing retaliation if they say anything. But they should come forward and get this person off the streets

Yeah, I actually got physically ran over tonight by a pickup truck. Took the cops 25 mins to respond and they pretty much laughed at me. Preceded to hospital where I was told to take a seat where I would wait for nearly 4-5 hours. I was actually In too much agony to stay at the hospital so my girlfriend drove me home! Still haven't seen a doctor!

What do you want when a parent says yes we are going out have a little party,my 16 year old went to a house party last weekend,he called me at 12:00 to come home, when I picked him up I couldn't even get my car close to his door there were so many kids outside,he told me between the house and outside there had to been 75-100 young ones.16 I wouldn't let my kids have a house party,I wouldn't go on vacation and leave my 16-17 year olds alone thinking everything is going to be ok.
