Bruce Ives Leyte has been denied bail.
Judge Catherine Allen-Westby ruled Friday morning the Boyd's Cove native who is accused of faking his own death in Corner Brook in the summer of 2006 is too much of a flight risk to be released from police custody.
The 57-year-old has been in police custody since his arrest in St. John's late last month. He is charged with public mischief for the alleged fake suicide plot and has also been charged with fraud over $5,000 in relation to an investigation which commenced prior to his disappearance.
Leyte is believed to have used at least two false identities while spending time in western Canada and in St. John's while he was missing. He also faces charges in relation to alleged activities he was involved with while living under an assumed name in British Columbia.
