Grand Falls-Windsor -

A Pennsylvania woman who was extradited from the United States arrived in Newfoundland early this morning and has appeared in provincial court in Grand Falls-Windsor on charges related to the shooting death of her husband more than three years ago.

Mary Beth Harshbarger, 43, of Meshoppen, Penn., arrrived at Gander Airport just after midnight this morning.

She was charged in this province with criminal negligence causing death and careless use of a firearm after her husband was shot while the couple was hunting bear in Buchans Junction on Sept. 14, 2006. She claimed it was an accident.

At the brief court appearance, the Crown dropped the charge of careless use of a firearm, since her extradition involved only the criminal negligence charge.

A bail hearing is set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

I think she should be in prison...she was in wrong. You just don`t fire at something when you don`t know what your aiming at. She is definitely in wrong.

I think that this charge is way too generalized as the charge of careless driving - there are too many variables to this charge...you have already pionted at her as if she killed him personally and deliberatly... The charge is just out of content for what has transpired... they were both licenced to hunt - did not take safety precautions - so it was an accident in my view... thanx...
