The ruling provincial PC Party continues to receive exceptionally high levels of support from residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.
According to a news release, presently three-quarters (75 per cent, down from 80 per cent in February) of decided voters back the PCs, while less than two in 10 (16 per cent, compared with 15 per cent) prefer the Liberals.
Eight percent (compared with 5 per cent) support the NDP.
The number of Newfoundland and Labrador residents who are undecided, do not plan to vote, or refuse to state a preference currently stands at 22 per cent (up from 16 per cent).
Overall satisfaction with the performance of the PC government remains extremely high. Currently, nearly nine in 10 (87 per cent, down from 93 per cent three months ago) residents are either completely or mostly satisfied with the performance of the PC government, while one in 10 (up from 3 per cent) are dissatisfied.
PC Leader Danny Williams' personal popularity remains high at 79 per cent (compared with 81 per cent in February). Preference for Liberal Leader Yvonne Jones as premier stands at 11 per cent (compared with 8 per cent), and backing for NDP Leader Lorraine Michael is stable at four per cent (compared with 5 per cent).
Five per cent like none of these leaders, have no definite opinion, or prefer others.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 808 adult Newfoundland and Labrador residents. The survey was conducted from May 11 to May 31, 2010 with results for the province accurate to within + 3.4 percentage points in 95 out of 100 samples.
