Firefighters are still on the scene after a fire in the centre of St. John's.
Crews appeared to have the situation under control on Franklyn Avenue, near the Prince of Wales Arena, after receiving a call from a frantic homeowner who said their house was on fire.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to determine that the fire was contained to the basement of the house, and not in the walls.
All five of the people who were in the house got out quickly.
No one was injured in the fire. Rescue workers brought a cat out of the house and administered oxygen with their animal resuscitation equipment, which they received less than a month ago. Several other pets escaped.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
