During the RCMP investigation into a breakin at Western Bay Pharmacy early this morning, officers located two bags near the scene containing stolen narcotics, a variety of tools believed used during the breakin, and unusual items including ham and pineapple pizza slices, and a full Delmonte Tangerine juice bag.
Members of the Trinity Conception RCMP responded to an alarm at business about 4:43 a.m. and while enroute were informed by the pharmacy owner that extensive damage was done to the inside of the pharmacy once the culprits entered the premises.
Two males were seen leaving the premises, one on foot and the other in a dark blue sedan.
RCMP officers said they recovered a green and tan-coloured ROOTS knapsack at the scene which contained 11 assorted bottles of pills - Dilaudid, Codeine and Darvon. RCMP say it appears the bag was dropped by the culprits in their haste to flee the scene and the indication is that the knapsack contained all of the stolen pills.
Also located in the recovered knapsack was a bag containing the pizza slices along with the Delmonte juice bag.
The police also said a person living near the pharmacy heard the alarm, looked out his window to witness one of the culprits running from the building. The man gave chase "barefoot" but the culprit managed to get away. That culprit is described as about 6'2" tall, skinny, and was wearing a dark ball cap and a dark track suit.
In addition the RCMP recovered a small blue Nike bag at the scene which contained a variety of tools - including a wrecking bar, screw driver, hatchet, saw and chisel - that are believed to have been used in the break and enter.
The investigation is ongoing.
