The RCMP says it has evidence gunshots were fired near a Southern Bay home but currently have no idea who fired them.
Nor has the RCMP ruled out foul play in a case in which a Southern Bay man on Friday complained he had been the target of gunfire.
The man told police that about 24 minutes past midnight Thursday, while on his personal property in the Bonavista Bay community, he felt he was fired at.
RCMP members from the Bonavista and Clarenville detachments responded to the scene and searched for a suspect but was unsuccessful.
A further search of the area by the use of the Police Dog Services, the RCMP's forensic identification section, and the local ground search and rescue team, evidence of shoots being fired was found.
The investigation is being handled by the RCMP major crime unit, which will be working with the Clarenville and Bonavista RCMP detachments.
Police do not believe the general public to be at risk.
