Drugs, gun seized in St. Johns

A 30-year-old St. John's man will make a court appearance this morning following his arrest Monday as a result of a residential search in the Kenmount Terrace area.
Members of the RCMP St. John's drug section seized a loaded pistol within a meter of the suspect when he was arrested, as well as a quantity of cocaine and $35,000.00 in cash.
The RCMP obtained a search warrant before entering the premises and said the search occurred after a "lengthy and ongoing" drug investigation.
The man is currently in police custody.
He will answer to charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act as well as various firearms offences when he appears in court today..
The RCMP said in a release the support of the public is appreciated and needed by police who, regardless of the dangers they face, "continue to rid our streets of drugs and assets gained from drug sales."
