A house fire at 78 Penetanguishene Rd. was put out within minutes earlier this evening.
Capt. Craig Cox of the St. John's Regional Fire Department said the famliy was away from their one-storey home when the fire started.
"The people weren't home at the time. When they got home, they discovered that there was smoke in the house, and they called us," said Cox, who added two stations, 12 firefighters, responded to the call, which came at 6:22 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found a "little bit of flame," said Cox. "The guys went in and made a quick attack, and had it under control very quickly."
No one was injured, and there was "minimal" smoke and water damage in addition to the fire damage, said Cox.
The fire is under investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
